Relatives, a plan and a piece of luck. These are the ingredients of the story about Lavdim Imeri from Kosovo, who has just completed his studies on the AP Degree in Marketing Management at the School of Technology and Business in Horsens, Denmark.
His relatives have lived in Denmark for 15 years and made Lavdim aware of the programme. That caused the 20 year-old Kosovo Albanian to make a plan.
”The plan was to go to Denmark and get a degree. And the plan was successful, because I have just passed my examination, but it would not have been quite so easy without the ’miracle’,” Lavdim Imeri laughs.
Focus on the studies
The ’miracle’ is a scholarship from the Danish Ministry of Education covering both the tuition fees and a maintenance grant that corresponds to the Danish state educational grants – a sum of money given to Danish students by the Danish State every month while they are studying. The Scholarship’s duration is of one year.
”I paid for the first two semesters, but at a meeting at the School VIA’s International Coordinator told us that we could apply for a scholarship, and then I was lucky,” says Lavdim, who believe that particularly the Danish state education grant makes a big difference.
”Getting a state education grant is quite exceptional and a part of the Danish educational policies that most other countries could learn from. With the state education grant, students can focus on studying instead of constantly having to think about making money to cover living expenses,” says Lavdim.
Is applying for a new scholarship
Lavdim Imeri is hoping to get a job in Denmark and later to become a representative of a Danish company in Kosovo. But first, he wants to put one more degree certificate in his rucksack.
”I will begin on the new Bachelor Programme in International Sales and Marketing here in Horsens in autumn 2009, and I have already applied for a scholarship. I was lucky last time and so I hope to be again,” Lavdim Imeri says.
