Education improves his golf game

When the season is at its height, he has golf on the timetable almost every day. Now, he is going to combine his golfing with the Bachelor Programme in Global Nutrition and Health. A disadvantage some might say, but not Morten Storgaard Mortensen

He can’t really feel his legs, but this is the type of situation he likes. He has never missed a shot in such a situation. His legs are shaking. Some hate being in this situation while others love it. Morten Storgaard Mortensen loves it.

It’s up to him. A successful putt and the team will win the title Elite League Team. Beforehand, Morten has played the lead in a dramatic series of event. He only has two more holes to go. He is four meters away from the hole and the little round ball must go in if the dream of playing in Denmark’s best national golf league should be kept intact. He must win. Four meters between success and failure. This time it’s a success. With a beautiful putt, Morten sends the ball into the hole and the hope is still alive. Now, everything will be settled at the last hole.
- I had to win the last hole, otherwise it would have resulted in a playoff, so it was really great to putt the ball into hole. It was a putt of two meters. We got the deciding point securing our advancement, Morten says remembering one of the most important putts of his career where he took part in securing Silkeborg Golf Club’s advancement to Denmark’s most distinguished national league.

Knowledge can improve the game
Morten would have liked to go to the USA where he could have received a partial scholarship enabling him to play college golf. But a lack of science subjects ruined the plan so instead he chose Aarhus. Here, he will spend the next three and a half years on the Bachelor Programme in Global Nutrition and Health at VIA University College.
- I heard of the Bachelor Programme in Global Nutrition and Health, and I am very pleased. We can choose different directions on the programme and in particular Lifestyle coaching is really exciting. In the off season, I do a lot of fitness and I would like to work on how to combine this with the diet.

Another side benefit to the programme is the great knowledge of the body that comes with the programme. Knowledge that Morten expects to use in connection with this sport.
- In golf, you don’t use your energy quickly as in e.g. a 100-metre sprint. In golf, you want your blood sugar to be stable. I would like to know more about what to eat to best promote my athletic performance. I can use it when I play golf. I have tried playing a tournament all day long where I hadn’t been eating properly. I was so dizzy at the last hole. It was a really nasty experience and it also cost me a number of strokes. This is where the programme will be relevant, making me aware of what to eat, Morten says.

Not only does he hope to improve his golfing with the new knowledge achieved from the programme.  He also hopes to bring something from the golf course into the classroom.
- I know how dedicated I can be. I hope to use my stubbornness and focus as much on the programme as I have done on golf, Morten says.
